Here are the top three stories in Missoula today:

  1. Four individuals received recognition from the Missoula Fire Department as well as the University of Montana for their heroic efforts in saving a man's life in late February. On Feb. 28, a man went into cardiac arrest on the corner of Beckwith and Arthur Avenue, and four individuals stepped up and took turns administering CPR to the man until emergency services arrived at the scene. The man has since made a full recovery, and John K., Lisena B., Jeff G., and Aleah O. all received certificates of recognition for their heroism. (NBC Montana)
  2. Montana hit a historic low unemployment rate in February at 2.4 percent, down 0.1 percent from January and a new record low. Governor Greg Gianforte is thrilled Montanans are working hard to keep these numbers low and that new jobs are being created for people to fill in. Since Gianforte has been in office, the unemployment rate has dropped over 36 percent, and he believes it is because the pro-family, pro-job agenda continues to be pushed. Missoula County is currently sitting at 2.8 percent, which is under the national number of 3.6 percent. (KPAX News)
  3. On Thursday, Senate Bill 99 passed 65-35 in the Montana House with a preliminary vote. The bill bans hormone treatments and surgeries for transgender youth under the age of 18 who are medically transitioning gender from what they were assigned at birth. Senate Bill 99 will also penalize healthcare providers who provide gender-affirming care with suspensions, and it prohibits properties and buildings from promoting social transitioning like changing pronouns.
