Here are the top three stories in Missoula today:

  1. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks personnel discovered pieces of women's clothing in the Gold Creek area during a research operation on May 4. Missoula County Search and Rescue was already looking for Nefataree Bartell, who had been missing since Feb. 21, and responded to the location where the clothing was found, discovering human remains after a short search. The City of Missoula Police Department is handling this case and further information will be shared with the public when necessary. (Montana Right Now ABC)
  2. Missoula city officials are planning to remove the poplar trees at the wastewater facility and replace them with alfalfa, which can consume the same amount of effluent and nutrients as the poplar trees. The poplar trees were planted in 2012 to reduce the amount of nitrogen and phosphorus the wastewater facility was releasing into the Clark Fork River; however, there are few uses for the product now, and it is costing the city around $100,000 a year to maintain the irrigation system. (News Talk KGVO)
  3. Missoula County Public Schools (MCPS) issued a warning about bear activity between Hawthorne Elementary School and the Clark Fork River. People in the affected neighborhoods are advised to be cautious and watchful due to reports of bear activity in the past 24 hours. MCPS has advised that parents or guardians accompany young children when commuting to and from school or bus stops in the region. (NBC Montana)
