Here are the top 3 stories in Missoula today:
- The Clark Fork River is currently under a flood warning "until further notice," and could rise above nine feet this weekend, The National Weather Service declared late Tuesday. The higher-than-normal temperatures in the area have caused the snow to melt rapidly in the mid and upper elevations. As a result, there is limited availability of sand and sandbags for the public, which can be obtained on D Road at Fort Missoula. (MTPR)
- Missoula's nonprofit community is rallying for the Missoula Gives fundraising campaign, aiming to raise $1.5 million in 26 hours. It's the first year with live, on-location events since the pandemic began. Donating today earns a free cocktail at Plonk Wine Bar. Last year's event raised $1.27 million. (Newstalkkgvo)
- Missoula leaders discussed urban camps and received many complaints, but court rulings limit their ability to remove people. They need more shelter space to avoid overwhelming the city this summer, as all existing shelters are full. Councilmember Gwen Jones said., "Staff respond to the complaints as they are able. They can enforce health and safety codes that include the accumulation of garbage, human waste and hypodermic needles. But they are not able to remove people from their tents or vehicles simply for camping."
