Wildfire smoke, dust, pollen, and agriculture can all quickly change conditions, so residents are urged to monitor the map regularly.

• FSU history student receives competitive writing award to support architectural and Indigenous landscape studies research (fsu.edu) — A Florida State University doctoral student who began his academic journey at Chadron State College has earned a major national writing award to support his research on Indigenous land and water management. His work examines how federal infrastructure projects have affected Native communities and modern resource management. The recognition highlights the strong foundation he built during his undergraduate years in Chadron.

• Veryl Jansen (chadronradio.com) — Longtime former Chadron resident Veryl Jansen, who worked for the CNW railroad here and lived in the community for more than 20 years, has died at age 91. His life took him from a South Dakota farm to careers, family gatherings, and later years in Montana, where he passed away on December 6 with services set for December 17 in Forsyth.
