(Omaha, NE) – October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and residents of Avidor Omaha are doing all they can to call attention to the need for a cure. Several people who live in the 55+ active adult community have been touched by the disease, including Pastor Patti Webb.

“One of my closest friends had a double mastectomy and has been cancer free for 30 years. My sister finished radiation a year ago,” she said. “When people you love have a disease that has the potential to take their lives, you kind of want to get involved so you can feel like you make a difference.”

Pastor Webb is among the Avidor ambassadors who have stepped up to lead the community’s fundraising efforts for Susan G. Komen, the world’s largest breast cancer organization. In addition to staffing a table where residents can drop off their donation checks, she is helping to sell the wrist bands people throughout the community have pledged to wear all month.

“Just a week into our community fundraiser, the residents had nearly doubled their $500 fundraising goal. Now we’re hoping to triple it,” said Christina Reed, Senior Sales Consultant at Avidor Omaha.

Residents are also trying to get all of their friends and family members to pledge to walk with them at the “I Pink I Can” walk happening on Friday, October 18, 2024, beginning at 2 p.m. The goal is to have 200 walkers participate in the event.

“We hope to see a sea of pink out there on October 18. All of the walkers who make donations are being given pink Avidor Omaha shirts to wear to the walk,” said Reed.

“I Pink I Can” will take place along the trails of the Tri Faith campus, which is right across the street from Avidor Omaha. The community is located at 13110 Sterling Ridge Drive, Omaha, Nebraska 68144.
