The Nebraska Daughters of the American Revolution is to dedicate the marker at 2 p.m., honoring the coming 250th anniversary, in 2026, of the founding of the United States. The markers are the result of a collaboration with the United States Semiquincentennial Commission.

The marker reads, in part: β€œThis marker commemorates the men and women who achieved American independence. These Patriots, believing in the noble cause of liberty, fought valiantly to found a new nation, 1775-1783.”

β€œWe currently live in a divided country, and it is our hope that we can come together as a nation in the 250th anniversary of our country’s founding. Our Revolutionary War Patriots lived, fought, and sacrificed for us. We will always remember,” said Nebraska State Regent Marcia Shavlik.

Every state was challenged by former DAR President General Denise Doring Van Buren to raise the funds for at least one marker. The Memorial Park marker is to be the first of four to be placed in Nebraska. The aim, said Shavlik, is to inspire appreciation among current and future generations of Americans for the people whose sacrifices won America’s independence.

Daughters of the Revolution is a nonprofit women’s service organization with more than 185,000 members in about 3,000 chapters worldwide.
