City of Las Vegas residents hoping to unseat Councilwoman Michele Fiore want her removed or encouraged to resign from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority Board, but their request appears to have fallen on deaf ears.

Board members remained silent on the matter after hearing a letter from members of the NAACP of Las Vegas and Expel Michele, the group trying to recall the councilwoman.
“Ms. Fiore is not the image we want representing Las Vegas,” says the letter. “She has proved herself to be extremely controversial, disrespectful, and has a lack of remorse for her racist comments that serve to divide our community instead of bringing us together.”

Since the groups asked the LVCVA Board in July to oust Fiore, she’s been sued by Protectors of Floyd Lamb at Tule Springs for her efforts to turn an historic hay barn into an events center and she’s been alleged in a Federal Election Commission complaint to have used city resources to campaign for President Trump in June of 2020, according to the letter. It also includes a list of Fiore’s most memorable foibles and outright fables.
A protest planned for the meeting was cancelled because of COVID-19.
“No, we are not discouraged,” Molly Taylor, an organizer of the recall effort, said of the Board ignoring the matter. “We expected that nothing would be done, that the Board would expect our frustrations and demands to subside.”
“Mayor (Carolyn) Goodman said in the last City Council meeting that because there wasn’t anyone there for public comments that we ‘either gave up or they finally see what a good job we are doing,’” she says, adding that “couldn’t be further from the truth. We will continue to push for Michele Fiore to be removed from the LVCVA Board, as well as continuing our recall effort.”
The effort has another month to turn in a total of 1,911 signatures.
