Reader Poll: Do You Support The Smith Street Development?

A new development is proposed on Smith Street, and would result in 100 new residential homes. The project also includes an ice cream factory and a roller skating rink.

The project has been presented to the Smithtown Council, and will be up for preliminary approval on Thursday. At the last meeting, hundreds of concerned residents turned out to oppose the project, particularly the ice cream factory portion of the development. They said the town has enough ice cream, and that the new development would result in a traffic nightmare.

Supporters say a roller skating rink is long overdue in Smithtown, and urge the council to move the project forward.
