Agitated, Naked Man Talked Off Roof Of Hiking Hut In White Mountains

BETHLEHEM, NH — Hikers in the White Mountains of New Hampshire had more than the view of the mountains on Saturday when a naked man was on the roof of an AMC hut.

NH Fish and Game were notified at about 5:50 p.m. of a hiker threatening people at the AMC Zealand Hut in Bethlehem. Conservation officers and an officer from the U.S. Forest Service responded and hiked 2.7 miles to the Zealand Hut.

When the officers arrived, they located a highly agitated naked male on the roof of the AMC Zealand Hut. The Officers spent over an hour deescalating the situation and attempting to get the male off the roof.

Officers were eventually able to talk the man off the roof and escort him back to the Zealand Trailhead parking lot arriving at 10 p.m.

The man was identified as Brian Cheverier, 35, of Boylston, Massachusetts. He was arrested and charges are pending.

No hikers at the Hut were injured and AMC operations are continuing. Fish and Game was assisted by Carrol Police Department and AMC Hut staff.
