Snowmobile Leaves Trail, Strikes A Boulder Seriously Injuring CT Rider

A man from Somers, Connecticut, was riding a rented machine in North Conway on Monday and crashed. Rescuers transported him from the woods.

NORTH CONWAY, NH — New Hampshire Fish and Game was notified that a snowmobile accident had occurred on Corridor 19 in North Conway Monday.

Zachrey Mesa, 37 of Somers, Connecticut, was riding on a rented snow machine and was at the back of a group of four machines when he failed to negotiate a downhill left-hand turn in the trail. He left the trail and struck a large boulder and sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash.

Members of his group stopped at an intersection and, realizing Zachrey was missing, returned and found him at the scene. Members of the group were able to call 911 for assistance at about 9:30 a.m. A conservation officer, members of North Conway Fire and Rescue, and Action Ambulance responded to the call.

The closest access point was over a mile from Zachrey’s location. Members of North Conway Fire stabilized his injuries and utilized a tracked side-by-side with an attached rescue sled to bring him out to a waiting ambulance. He arrived at the ambulance shortly after 10:30 AM and was taken to the Memorial Hospital in North Conway for treatment.

Conservation Officers did not indicate the cause of the crash or if there were any violations.
