Nancy West here, founder of the New Hampshire Center for Public Interest Journalism, publisher of InDepthNH.org. I know you get a lot of emails asking for your year-end contribution, and I’m sure there are many worthy organizations that could use your help. But I wanted to take this opportunity to share why we’re different, and why we need your support now more than ever. We are midway through our NH Sustainable News Summit Project and need to raise enough this year to build the business component of this nonprofit so we can eventually pay our own way.

I founded InDepthNH.org in 2015 with a little savings with the mission of giving voice to marginalized people, places and ideas and holding the powerful accountable. Joined now by people like Garry Rayno, Paula Tracy, Bev Stoddard, Bob Charest, Roger Wood, Michael Davidow, Arnie Alpert, Wayne King, Damien Fisher and more, we do this every day through stories like covering this election which has gone a little wild. Our reporter Paula Tracy again today will be reporting on election recounts. Two races have already flipped with many more recounts to go in the House that stands now at 201 Republican seats and 199 Democratic seats. It’s a cliffhanger and we’ll keep you posted.

There is also more happening on the Laurie List front, that is police officers who have been disciplined for dishonesty and excessive force. Yesterday a county attorney agreed to review a decades old conviction because the defendant was not told before trial that the police officer who testified against him had known credibility issues. We are the only news outlet still fighting in court to get ALL of the names of the 250 plus officers on the list, not just some of them.

This is reporting you won’t find anywhere else (certainly not in the national news!) because it covers the issues that most impact your day-to-day life — school funding, state spending, solid waste, the environment and investigative reporting by the most trusted journalists in the state. We also highlight the state’s authors in Bev Stoddard’s column A NH Writer’s Life. We are also working to become the go-to outlet for all obituaries that are affordable and not behind a paywall because that is in the public’s interest.

As a nonprofit, we depend on the support of readers like you to keep this critical work going.
