Brookwood Drive Home Sustains Significant Damage In 3-Alarm Fire

Amherst Fire personnel, with support from numerous other towns knocked down a 3-alarm fire at 3 Brookwood Drive Friday afternoon.

Personnel remain at the home as of 2 p.m., overhauling the scene.

Fire Chief Mark Boynton said the call came in just before noon and first responders arrived to flames showing out of the right side of the home near the chimney. They immediately called a second alarm to get support from Milford and a third alarm was called bring tankers and engines from several communities.

Boynton said despite the length of time it took to round up responders from Amherst's volunteer fire department, they made quick work of the flames, saving the house from being a total loss. There is significant damage to the home, however, and Boynton said it is not habitable.

No one was home at the time of the fire and no one was injured.
