5 Things: Amherst Police Team Up To Give Toys

It was Christmas in prison and the Patch was real good. We had turkey and pistols carved out of wood.

1. Weather report: Today will be partly cloudy with a high of 42 degrees. The clouds remain into the night with an overnight low of 27 degrees. Tomorrow is also looking partly cloudy with temperatures in the 40's.

2. Toys! The Amherst Police Department and Walmart have teamed up once again to provide to provide toys for those less fortunate in the Souhegan Valley area with the Holiday Toy Store drive. Tony Tiner, Walmart store manager, made a large donation of children’s bicycles to finalize an already successful drive.

3. Patch Fact: Did you know: The flail is a hand implement used to thresh small grain crops such as wheat, barley, and oats. The flail consisted of a short stick or club, called a swizzle, fastened by a leather strap to a long wooden handle known as the staff. 

4. Nice picture. Lemme use it. Your photo of a dog looking at the sunset on Instagram may not be as private as you think. The company may start taking user photos for their own advertising, without paying them.

5. Congrats! Northwestern Mutual, the Northern New England Financial Group is celebrating its 125th anniversary of doing business in New Hampshire.  As part of the celebration, Scott Christensen, Managing Partner for The Northern New England Financial Group, is being honored for 22 years of service, 8 of which have been spent in New England. Christensen began his Northwestern Mutual career in 1990 in the Chicago area and in 2004 became Managing Partner for the New England Region. Christensen is a graduate of the University Of Illinois College Of Business and completed the Leadership Greater Manchester program in 2009.  He resides in Amherst with his wife Kathy and daughters Carly, Sara and Abbey.
