4. Good news on the jobs front. USA Today reports that unemployment dropped to 7.8 percent in September. This is the lowest rate since January 2009, and 114,000 jobs were added.

5. Ayotte in the area. A staff member from the office of U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) will be holding office hours on Tuesday, Oct. 16, in Amherst and Hollis to assist New Hampshire citizens with official business. Residents who are interested in meeting with a member of the senator’s staff should stop by the town offices during the following times: Amherst from 10 a.m. to noon and Hollis from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. They can also call Lara McIntyre at (603) 880-3335 to schedule an appointment.
