Amherst Town, School Election Voter's Guide: March 28

Here is everything you need to know about the March 28 town and school elections in Amherst, New Hampshire.

Editor's note: The town election in Amherst has been postponed until March 28, due to a snowstorm.

AMHERST, NH — Amherst voters will head to the polls on March 28 to make decisions about town and school budgets as well as political positions, warrant articles, and other issues.

Voting

Voters will cast ballots from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Souhegan High School, 412 Boston Post Road.

Town Races, Info

Town voters have a couple of competitive races.

Thomas Grella is running unopposed for a selectman seat.

Nancy Demers is running unopposed to be town clerk again.

Marie Grella is the only candidate on the ballot to be cemetery trustee.

Two candidates for library trustees are running unopposed: Stephen Mantius and Nancy Head.

Two three-year planning board seats have three candidates: Thomas Quinn, Arnie Rosenblatt, and Jason Sorens.

Cynthia Dokmo, Peter Hansen, and Timothy Kachmar are running for a single one-year planning board seat.

Michael Parisi is running unopposed for a trustee of the trust fund seat.

Charles Vars and James Ramsay are also running unopposed for two ZBA seats.

Voters will consider a $15.9 million town budget with a default budget coming in at $15.65 million.

Several reserve fund transfers and other proposals will be considered by voters.

Voters will also consider whether to appoint a town treasurer and implement a tax cap. About a dozen zoning articles are also on the ballot.

School Info, Races

There are also two competitive school board races.

Terri Behm, Mark Cheney, Greg Fritz, Shannon Gascoyne, and Mozammel Husainy are all competing for two three-year seats.

Two candidates are vying for school district moderator: Mark Vincent and Ellen Grudzien.

Tony Ortiz is running unopposed for school district clerk.

Margaret Bennett is running unopposed for school district treasurer.

Voters will also consider at $54.3 million in bonding for a major addition, reconstruction, and renovation project at the Clark and Wilkins elementary schools.

The school budget is set at $32.4 million or a default budget of $31.99 million.

Union contracts will also be considered as well as a tax cap for the school budget.

Two candidates are running unopposed for two Souhegan Cooperative School District: Christine Peters and Stephanie Grund.

Voters will also consider a cooperative budget of $20.4 million or a default budget of $19.9 million.

Voters will also consider cooperative budget transfers and reserve fund budgets.

Voters will also consider a tax cap on the cooperative district.
