Amherst College Students Graduate, Receive Honors College
College students in town earn degrees and were named to Dean's Lists recently.
AMHERST, NH — Els Caulo, of Amherst, graduated after majoring in sociology and minoring in anthropology and Asian studies at Bates College. Caulo, the daughter of Peter J. Caulo and Elizabeth G. Caulo, is a 2017 graduate of Brooks School. Caulo was inducted into the Bates Scholar-Athlete Society, an organization which honors graduating seniors who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or have received special nomination from the faculty for outstanding academic achievement in their junior and senior years, and who have participated in a varsity sport for a minimum of three years. Bates College graduated 469 students from 38 states and 43 countries on May 27, 2021.
The University of Rhode Island celebrated more than 4,000 of its newest alumni during the University's 135th Commencement. Among the the graduates was Hallie Rae Parenteau of Amherst, who received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Magna Cum Laude. More than 3,700 undergraduate degrees and 680 graduate degrees were conveyed to students during nine individual ceremonies held over three days, May 21-23, 2021. Students who received the honor summa cum laude graduated with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.7; students who received the honor of magna cum laude graduated with a GPA of at least 3.50; and students who received the honor of cum laude graduated with a GPA of at least 3.3.
Will Gebhardt of Amherst graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a BS in computational mathematics. Some 4,000 degrees were conferred in the 2020-2021 academic year at all of RIT's campuses. Due to New York state COVID-19 occupancy restrictions, commencement was celebrated May 14-15 in smaller ceremonies by college and were live-streamed for graduates' family and friends.

Eric Loconto and Anna Redway graduated from University of Connecticut earlier this year.
Rosie Garvey, of Amherst, N.H., received a degree from Clark University during the University's 117th Commencement exercises on Saturday, June 12, and Sunday, June 13. Garvey graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. The University awarded 490 bachelor's degrees, 501 master's degrees, and 10 doctorates, and conferred three honorary degrees during the two ceremonies. Graduates were urged to ask the hard questions, drive change, and even occasionally stir some trouble.

Roger Williams University is proud to announce that Taylor Aselin, of Amherst, graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Communication & Media Studies in May as part of the Class of 2021.
Kathryn Osterholtz, of Amherst, graduated from Union College recently. Osterholtz, a member of the Class of 2021 majoring in Anthropology, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts cum laude.

Determined to maintain the spirit of joy and optimism that is the hallmark of UVM's commencement ceremony, but doing so in a safe manner, University of Vermont President Suresh Garimella conferred degrees on graduates at multiple, smaller school and college ceremonies. "Our emphasis will be on celebrating our students. We are very proud of each and every one of them and salute their accomplishment," Garimella said prior to the ceremonies, which marked the end of a highly successful year of in-person education on the UVM campus. An estimated 3,347 graduates, including 2,685 bachelors, 435 masters, 117 doctoral and 110 medical, earned degrees during the university's 220th commencement.

Rosie Garvey, of Amherst, was named to second honors on the Clark University Dean's List. This selection marks outstanding academic achievement during the Spring 2021 semester. Students must have a GPA of 3.8 or above for first honors or a GPA between 3.50 and 3.79 for second honors.
The following students have been named to the dean's list at Bates College for the winter semester ending in May 2021. This is a distinction earned by students whose grade point average is 3.88 or higher.

Naomi Cohen, of Amherst, was honored with the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Society for Music Teacher Education, Excellence in Student Teaching Award at Susquehanna University's annual student awards luncheon, held each May in the days leading up to commencement. Cohen majored in music at Susquehanna. They are a graduate of Souhegan High School.

The criteria for selection to the Dean's List are as follows: The student must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded coursework for the term, exclusive of "P" grades. The student must not have any incompletes or missing grades in the designated term. The student must have a minimum semester grade average of 3.500 for the term.

The University of Rhode Island is pleased to announce that Cat Chaput of Amherst has been named to the Spring 2021 Dean's List. To be included on the Dean's List, full-time students must have completed 12 or more credits for letter grades which are GPA applicable during a semester and achieved at least a 3.30 quality point average. Part-time students qualify with the accumulation of 12 or more credits for letter grades which are GPA applicable earning at least a 3.30 quality point average.
University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB) is proud to announce that Julia Pinkham of Amherst has been named a Spring 2021 Chancellor's List honoree! To be eligible for the President's List, students must obtain a term grade point average of 4.00 earned on a minimum of 12 credited semester hours. To be eligible for the Chancellor's List, students must obtain a term grade point average of 3.50 or higher earned on a minimum of 12 credited semester hours.
To be named to the dean's list, students must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or better and rank in the top 20 percent of their class in their respective college or school.
