Amherst Farmers Market Rounding Out Season, Don't Miss Tonight

Morning news and notes for Sept. 5

Farmers Market. It's Farmers Market day on the Amherst town green. The end of September is the end of the Farmers Market season in town, so take advantage of these last few weeks of locally-grown and NH Made products before the season ends. The market runs from 3-6 p.m.

Join Cub Scouts. Cub Scouting is fun! No matter what grade you are in, first through fifth, it can be a blast. Do you like to learn by doing? This is just the place. You can learn to tie knots, set up a tent, shoot a bow and arrow (archery). Have you ever cooked a meal on a campfire? Sent a secret code to a buddy? Built a birdhouse? Played Ultimate? Hiked? Earn rewards for doing these things in Cub Scouts. Contact Jay Cohen, Cubmaster of Pack 613 in Amherst, for more info at jayc@rennlist.net or visit www.pack613nh.org .

ICYMI. U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-NH, voted in favor of a resolution that authorizes the U.S. to take military action in Syria after reports the ruling regime attacked rebels with chemical weapons. Shaheen and other members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved a measure that would give President Obama the authority to launch a limited military strike on Syria.

Weather watch. We may have some rain in this morning's forecast but the good news is the weekend is shaping up to be very nice. According to the National Weather Service, today will give way to scattered showers, mainly before 9 a.m., otherwise cloudy, then gradual clearing during the afternoon, with a high near 70. Tonight will be clear, with a low around 42.
