Amherst Town Administrator On Administrative Leave

Details are scarce as to why town administrator Jim O'Mara is not currently at town hall.

Amherst Town Administrator Jim O'Mara is currently on administrative leave, but no details yet why.

In a phone call Wednesday afternoon, O'Mara confirmed that he was currently on administrative leave as of last Wednesday. He gave no further details on the situation or when he would be returning.

Amherst Police Chief Mark Reams confirmed that there was a police officer present when O'Mara left town hall that day after meeting with selectmen, but he was not "escorted" off the property as one news report has claimed. O'Mara confirmed this on the phone today.

Chairman Bruce Bowler and multiple town officials gave no comment, citing this as a personnel issue.

O'Mara resigned from his position as chairman of the Amherst Selectmen in the fall of 2011 in order to replace Gary MacGuire as the new full-time town administrator. He had previously served as the Superintendent of Corrections for Hillsborough County for over 20 years.
