Derryfield School Teens From Amherst Earn Nation Merit Accolades

Teens among top percent of those who entered National Merit program.

The Derryfield Head of School Mary Halpin Carter is pleased to congratulate Cory Greer and Brianna Smith of Amherst, both members of Derryfield’s senior class, for their scholarly excellence. Greer has been named as a Commended Student in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program. Smith has been named as an Outstanding Participant in the National Achievement Scholarship Program. A letter of commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation, will be presented by the head of school to Greer, Smith, and several others in the class.  

About 34,000 Commended Students and 4,700 Outstanding Participants are being recognized throughout the nation for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2014 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2014 competition, and Outstanding Participants placed among the top three percent of more than 160,000 Black Americans who requested entry to the 2014 National Achievement Program.
