Frederick's Pastries Collects More than 2,500 Donations for Catie's Closet

To fill the closets for local students in need

Frederick’s Pastries donated more than 2,500 pieces of clothing and basic necessities to local students in need. For the month of August all three Frederick’s Pastries locations collected gently used, new clothes and basic necessities for Catie’s Closet.

Catie’s Closet was founded in 2010 in Lowell, Massachusetts to provide clothing to students at Lowell High School who were in need. 1,168,000 students are homeless in the United States and another 15 million are living below the poverty level. There are currently 3 schools in Hudson, NH, 2 schools in Nashua, NH and 17 in Lowell, MA with Catie’s Closet available to clothe students who are homeless and in need. Catie’s Closet serves 12,000 students in the NH and MA area, and the need for more closets is growing.

All three Frederick’s Pastries locations and Frank FM had a clothing donation box inside the store, where donors could drop off donations during business hours. Items from new socks, new sneakers, to toiletries were dropped off for four weeks. All of the donations were washed, folded and distributed to the local schools with closets. With all of the donations collected every one of Catie’s Closets was stocked for the new school year.

“The amount of donations that we received was overwhelming, and I am so humbled by our customers who supported out efforts and brought in donations. I saw everything from bags of children’s clothing, to brand new Nike sneakers being dropped off” Says Susan Lozier Robert, proprietor of Frederick’s Pastries. “We are so proud as a small business to stand by a local organization that really makes a huge impact in the lives of local children in our community.”

“I can’t thank everyone enough who donated. The turnout was more than I imagined and I am so grateful to hear that with everyone’s efforts we were able to stock all of the Catie’s Closets for the new school year! Our goal was to start the school year off on a good note, and I’m positive that we did that. Students who are homeless or below the poverty level are now going to school feeling like they fit in because they have clean clothes that fit and are today’s style” says Lozier Robert.

Catie’s Closet was named after Catie Bisson who graduated from Lowell High School in 2010, but passed away of a rare connective tissue disorder. This non-profit has over 20 closets in local schools, and is opening more to provide homeless students free clothing and toiletries.
