Freezing Cold Takes Hold
School Board and town filing periods open; Winter Carnival coming in a few weeks.

Bundle up and keep warm: While Amherst dodged a snow storm on Wednesday, town residents will not be able to escape from the bitterly cold temperatures that will dip below zero overnight and struggle to stay above zero degrees during the day.
School and town filing periods open: The filing periods for School Board and town candidates officially opened on Wednesday and will continue through Jan. 31 at 5 p.m.
Fatal hit and run driver due back in court: Travis Hobbs, 20, of Mont Vernon, who is charged with killing retired Amherst Fire Chief John Bachman after police say he struck him with his car on Dec. 23, had his probable cause hearing continued until Feb. 13.
Winter Carnival set: The Amherst Board of Selectmen recently voted to hold the town's Winter Carnival on Sunday, Feb. 9 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Middle Road.
