Among his tasks will be to calm and soothe crime victims and witnesses, aide fellow officers in coping with stress and trauma, and support mental health and wellness initiatives in schools and community groups, officers explained in a news release.

It seems it took a village to raise Berry and make him the officer he is today. He was a gift to the department from GQ Labs in Nashua and is now given comprehensive care by Amherst Animal Hospital, food from Food for Pets, training by Granite State Dog Training Center, and 'routine needs' by Petco, officers wrote.

With their help, the small yellow lab is set to leave his paw print on the community.

"Berry isn't just a dog; he's a hero," the department said.
