Hooksett I-93 Welcome Centers to be Taken Over by Common Man

Five things you should know as you start your day.

Halloween Dinner. Don't even think about pulling out the pots and pans before heading out for Trick-or-Treat. Let the Amherst Boy Scouts cook for you instead. Courtesy of Amherst Boy Scout Troop 613, dinner will be available from 5 to 8 p.m. on the village green across from Moulton's Market. The Boy Scouts will serve steaming bowls of chili, hotdogs, chips, apple cider, hot chocolate, soft drinks, and water at their annual Hot Dog and Chili Fundraiser.  Halloween Trick or Treat hours are Thursday, Oct. 31 from 6-8 p.m.

ICYMI. This video (love or hate Katy Perry) is bound to make your heart do a little flip. The patients, staff, doctors and nurses at Children's Hospital at Darmouth posted this lipsynch parody of Perry's hit "Roar" earlier this week. It's designed to show people the strength these kids have, even in the face of very serious illness. Make sure you go check out this video.

Mega-Millions new improvements.
If you play the Mega Millions lottery occasionally, or regularly, you chances of winning may have just gotten higher. The pick-six style lottery was just recreated to give jackpots higher starting values – from $12 million to $15 million, to increase secondary prizes and to change the odds of winning from 1:40 to 1:15, among others. Read about all the changes here.

Rest stop revamp.
Thursday, Oct. 24 is ground-breaking day at Hooksett Welcome Center on 1-93 north. A public-private partnership has been formed to renovate the Welcome Centers on each side of the highway to include concessions, fuel sales, visitors center and two state-run liquor stores. With the exception of the liquor stores, the Welcome Centers will be designed, built and run by the Common Man Family of restaurants, according to the 35-year agreement. Read more about the proposal here. The ground breaking ceremony will be at the northbound rest area at 10:30 a.m.

Weather watch. The crisp fall weather has arrived. According to today's forecast, we should expect mostly cloudy skies, with a high near 52. Tonight will be cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 30.
