LETTER: NH Legislature Has Done Great Things For You

Rep. Peter Hansen goes over the legislation that he believes has improved your lives.

Our general election is fast approaching, mark your calendar it is critical that everyone eligible votes. Equally important is the need to be well informed that you may form your personal opinion.

During the past 2 years there have been volumes of accusations, half-truths, spun and re-spun rhetoric, and outright distortions of the facts regarding the accomplishments of the legislature and the true impact their legislation has on the well being and secure future of our states residents. You will continue to hear or read over the next 5 weeks the alleged drastic measures taken during this term and their responsible solutions enacted to preserve NH as we know and love it. They will paint us as insensitive and unrelenting the critical and necessary actions taken to bail our state out of a $900 million dollar unfunded deficit left by members of the previous administration- two of whom are seeking office again.

Let’s review exactly what was accomplished that directly affects your personal lives. First, a comment to business owners and their employee’s. I trust those of you who own businesses are well aware and have begun to see the results of the multitude of pro-business legislation we passed to help you and the NH economy begin moving again allowing you to grow your business and hire new employee’s.

Returning to our efforts to support the families and individuals of NH let’s review. The most important accomplishment which will impact your lives was our balanced budget. Did you know that had the past level of spending continued each family of 4 would have to contribute an additional $3000.00 just to break even? That’s 750 dollars per person from everyone living in the state! Had we not reduced spending, you, your family and your children’s children would have been forced into a state broad-based tax or a 900 million dollar bond. Did you notice that your automobile registrations cost you between 30and 75 dollars less this year because we removed the surcharge? Do you camp or use a campground? Many hardworking folks with families and our guest from out of state love camping and we removed that tax burden for you as well. Of the 100 new taxes or fee’s set by the previous administration, that’sright 100 new taxes or fees, we were able to remove 20 and if re-elected will tackle the rest.

Are you enraged by paying for welfare to the scammers and cheaters? So were we and passed a law to identify and punish theses liars and cheaters. Next year we will pass legislation to insure you’re not paying these people to use your money to buy lottery tickets, tattoos, booze, drugs, lobster and filet mignon while you and I and our families are scrambling to pay our bills eating Mac and cheese and hamburger helper. Actually I love Mac and cheese just not 7 days a week.

This legislature committed to improve the business climate and the lives of our citizens. We made great strides toward that goal and I am pleased to relate that, along with incumbent representatives, Rowe,Stepanek, and Sanborn, I have been endorsed as a candidate by the National Federation of Independent Business. Small businesses keep this country and our state running and I am honored to be chosen for this distinction.

I’m asking for your vote in November because I know the great things we have done for NH and your families. I’m looking forward to more accomplishments providing NH families and businesses with the absolute best environment to achieve their dreams and goals.
