Man Faces Felony Charges After Firing Gun In Amherst Business

Robert Stepney of Mont Vernon was charged with felony level reckless conduct on Monday.

A Mont Vernon man faces felony charges after firing his gun off in Meadowbrook Plaza Monday afternoon.

Robert Stepney, 23, of Mont Vernon was arrested with felony level reckless conduct after Amherst police received a complaint of shots fired from occupants in Supercuts Hair Salon, according to their press release.

The gunshots were heard from neighboring business Brinestone around 1:18 p.m. No injuries were reported.

Police are still investigating the incident, but police believe the gunshot may have been accidental. Stepney was properly licensed to handle a concealed handgun.

Stepney was released on $15,000 personal recognizance bail with a pending arraignment date of Dec. 27 at the Milford District Court.
