Monday Essentials: Planning Board Meeting for Cemetery Fields Replacement
A look at the week ahead in Amherst.

1. Weather this Week: Things will be mostly sunny until Wednesday brings showers and isolated thunderstorms. That will continue into Thursday before a cloudy weekend comes along. Expect temperatures in the 80s.
2. Possible Playing Fields? A proposal to turn a Stearns Road property into playing fields for Amherst will be put before the Planning Board on Wednesday, August 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Souhegan High School Auditorium. Owner Brad Knight wants to turn Acorn Fields into the replacement for Cemetery Fields. Read more.
3. ICYMI: Patch Editor Robert Michaelson visited the Good Mojo Dog Center in Milford to bond with some of the canines. Watch as he learns how to give a dog a bath, and perform some tricks with an old dog. Spoiler: things get very wet. See the full video.
4. Bee there. Beekeper Birgit de Weerd will be at the Amherst Town Library on Wednesday, August 7 at 7 p.m. She will take you through the activities in and around a beehive with her slideshow, starting in January and ending in the fall with the honey harvest. She will also talk about many of the pollen and nectar producing blossoms the bees visit on their foraging trips throughout the seasons, opening another gardening dimension and, maybe, setting the seed for the start of a most interesting hobby: becoming a beekeeper yourself.
5. Patch Fact: The brain requires more than 25 percent of the oxygen used by the human body.
