State Police Make 3,914 Stops Over Thanksgiving Weekend

NH State Police Director Colonel Robert Quinn reports no fatal collisions again this year.

This year's Thanksgiving Holiday weekend had more police stops than last year, but the number of traffic-related fatalities remained at zero.

NH State Police made a total of 3,914 stops between Wednesday, Nov. 21 and Sunday, Nov. 25, according to a press release. These included 1,009 citations for speeding and 2,251 warnings.

There were also 117 citations issued for hazardous violations and 29 for driving after suspension. Additionally, eighty-three other criminal arrests were made during this time period.

State troopers arrested 31 drivers for DWI, many of whom were identified as a result of phoned in reports of unsafe and erratic operation from others drivers.

In 2011, state police made 3,651 traffic stops, which included 940 speeding tickets and 2,289 warnings. They made 103 citations for hazardous violations, 30 for driving under suspension.

A total of 58 arrests for criminal activity, including 34 DWI charges, were made last year.

State Police Director Colonel Robert Quinn thanked all those who travelled safely and courteously during the holiday weekend.
