No Private Prisons for New Hampshire

Prison privatization hits a snag, kayak trips and "Nothing" cans.

5 Things You Need to Know Today:

1. Running jails. A review of the proposal process for possible prison privatization in New Hampshire led the state departments of Corrections and Administrative Services to bring it to a halt. Read more on Concord Patch.

2. Fun times. The Souhegan Watershed Association is offering free canoe and kayak trips this month. For more information contact trip leaders Butch Mixon 978-360-4568 (or email maxdrop@hotmail.com) or Ed Kydd 598-7577.

3. The power! Fascism is a form of government headed, in most cases, by a dictator. It involves total government control of political, economic, cultural, religious, and social activities.

4. A good cause. The New Hampshire Food Bank and Citizens Bank Foundation continue to cause much ado about ‘Nothing’ throughout New Hampshire with the Nothing Campaign, which launched in March. Through April 12, cans of Nothing are available for purchase at grocery stores statewide to help support the Food Bank. Cans of Nothing are empty and represent the reality that so many people in New Hampshire face every day: hunger.

5. Weather Report: Today: Mostly cloudy skies. High 56F. Winds WSW at 10 to 20 mph. Tonight: A mostly clear sky. Low 29F. Winds NW at 10 to 20 mph.
