Planning Board to Review 'Cemetery Fields Alternative' Tonight

Brad Knight will once again attempt to turn Acorn Fields in recreational space.

A property that the owner considers an "alternative" to Cemetery Fields will be put before the planning board Wednesday night.

Brad Knight has a proposal to turn his property 12 Stearns Road, Acorn Fields, into playing fields. His attempt to zone the land for recreation/commercial use with the Amherst Zoning Board failed earlier this year, but this time around he is only requesting recreational use.

He plans to use the 57-acre property for soccer, lacrosse, football, baseball and farm space. Read more on Amherst Patch.

Cemetery Fields which will cease recreational use in September, 2014. Knight believes that the effort to reverse this process will not succeed, and that his property is the best solution for the town. Abutters are concerned about noise, traffic and environmental impact.

The Amherst Recreation Director recently detailed other alternatives after Cemetery Fields begins construction for burial plots next year.
