Schools Boards to Hold Deliberative Sessions on Proposed Budgets

Hemingway for Governor? So far, no Republican candidates have publicly announced a run for governor in 2014. But rumor has it that Andrew Hemingway may be thinking about challenging Democrat Maggie Hassan. A Draft Andrew Hemingway for Governor page has even popped up on Facebook. On Thursday, Jan. 30, Hemingway will host a "Solutions First Rally" at the Yard Restaurant in Manchester, a possible sign that he may be gearing up for a run.Planning Board meeting: The town's Planning Board will meet on Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall.
School Boards deliberative sessions this Saturday: The Amherst School Board and the Souhegan Co-Operative School Board are scheduled to hold deliberative sessions this Saturday on their proposed 2014-2015 budgets and warrant articles. The Souhegan Co-Operative School Board will hold their session at 9 a.m. in the Souhegan High School Auditorium. The Amherst School Board will hold its session at 11 a.m. in the high school auditorium.
Amherst School Board filing period deadline is Friday: Town residents who want to run for the Amherst School Board in SAU 39 can file their papers beginning on Wednesday. The filing period runs until Jan. 31 at 5 p.m. and there are four offices that will be decided by Amherst Town Meeting voters on March 11. The same filing period will be in effect for two seats on the Souhegan Co-Operative School Board and the Mont Vernon School Board.
"Civil War Quilts" at the library: On Tuesday, the Amherst Public Library will host Pam Weeks, curator of the New England Quilt Museum in Lowell, Mass. She will present a Power Point presentation on her first book, Civil War Quilts, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Need to get rid of your Christmas tree: The town's Transfer Station will continue to accept Christmas trees in the brush pile free of charge for residents who need a place to dispose of their trees.
Winter Carnival set: The Amherst Board of Selectmen recently voted to hold the town's Winter Carnival on Sunday, Feb. 9 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Middle Road.
