Planning Board to Review Ballfields Petition Warrant Articles

Planning Board and Heritage Commission to meet this week; Amherst kids head back to school; and Winter Carnival date set.

Planning Board to look at playing fields zoning amendments: The Planning Board is scheduled to meet Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Souhegan High School Library to discuss are three proposed zoning amendment petition warrant articles that will go before voters on the town meeting ballot. All three of these proposed warrant articles seek to redefine sports and recreation field uses and define where and how they can utilized. Schools reopen: Amherst kids are headed back to school on Monday morning following their Christmas vacation.

Planning Board, Heritage Commission to meet: The Board of Selectmen is scheduled to meet on Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Souhegan High School. The Planning Board is scheduled to meet on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Town Offices and the Heritage Commission is also scheduled to meet on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Town Offices. Winter Carnival set:
The Amherst Board of Selectmen recently voted to hold the town's Winter Carnival on Sunday, Feb. 9 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Middle Road.

No Texting and Driving pledge drive underway:
Fire Chief Mark Boynton has launched a pledge driving asking members of the public to not text and drive following the death of retired fire chief John Bachman on Dec. 23.

Fatal hit and run driver due back in court: Travis Hobbs, 20, of Mont Vernon, who is charged with negligent homicide after police say he struck and killed John Bachman with his car is scheduled to return to Nashua District Court for a probable cause hearing on Monday, Jan. 6.
