Missing Swimmer Found Safe In Baboosic Lake After Search By Responders

Amherst Fire, police, and Merrimack Fire searched for a woman missing while swimming with 3 other people. She was located after 50 minutes.

AMHERST, NH — Amherst Fire Rescue and police responded to a report of a missing swimmer on Baboosic Lake near Clark Island on Wednesday.

Members of a four-person group reported one woman swimming with them was unaccounted for and had not been seen for about 30 minutes. Amherst responders set up a command post at the town beach and requested Merrimack Fire Rescue respond to the opposite side of the lake. The Nashua Fire Rescue Dive Team was also activated and asked to respond. New Hampshire Fish and Game and Marine Patrol were also notified.

A resident on the lake launched their boat and began searching as soon as they were made aware of the missing swimmer. Merrimack Fire radioed the command post that a swimmer had been spotted about 50 minutes after the initial call near Jeb Road in Merrimack and that it was a woman with an orange buoy attached to her.

The resident with the boat rushed to the area to assist and assisted the woman into the boat and brought her to the town beach. Amherst Fire medics evaluated the woman wearing a wetsuit and refused medical transport.

The four people swimming all appeared to have wetsuits and were training together in the lake.

Authorities remind people to notify 911 immediately if someone goes missing and also be aware of the low water temperatures in ponds and lakes at this point in the season.
