'The Nutcracker,' Gingerbread Houses and Handmade Gifts.
Get into the holiday spirit with these local activities.

Build gingerbread houses. The YMCA of Greater Nashua is offering a fun holiday event for kids and parents. Join the Y for a gingerbread house making event on Sunday, Dec. 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Merrimack YMCA or Saturday, Dec. 21, 10 a.m.-noon at the Nashua YMCA. Cost is $12 per house. Registration is required. Make fun memories as a family while creating a cute table-top decoration. Register at the Y or online at www.nmymca.org.
Homemade holiday. A special one-day workshop is coming Saturday for kids in grades 5 through eight, that allows each participant to create six homemade gifts for giving this holiday season. Participants will work in a variety of media to create gifts such as a glass beaded bracelet, a 12-month watercolor calendar and a mini canvas among others. $50 for Amherst residents, $60 for non-residents. The workshop will be at Amherst Middle School, 14 Cross Road, beginning at 10 a.m. More information including how to register can be found on the Amherst Recreation Department website.
