Town Hall Depts To Relocate Before Repairs Begin July 29

Town employees at Amherst Town Hall will be relocating ahead of the building repairs at the end of July.

To ensure public safety during the repairs the Town Clerk, Tax Collector, Assessing, and the Community Development offices are relocating to the Central Fire Station on Amherst Street.  Administration and Finance are relocating to the Amherst Middle School, according to a press release.

The Town Hall will be closing on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at noon so that the staff can begin packing. The Town Hall will also be closed on Friday, July 26, 2013 for the actual move.

Town offices will be resuming normal operations and regular hours in these new locations beginning Monday, July 29, 2013.

The Amherst Board of Selectmen, at their regular meeting on July 8th, awarded the contract to repair  the Town Hall attic structure to Turnstone Corporation of Milford, New Hampshire. The requests for proposals went out in early June and responses were due by June 27, 2013.

Five contractors attended the mandatory pre-bid conference at the town hall. Before the meeting ended two of the five contractors in attendance left before the meeting concluded stating the project was too complex.

Of the remaining three contractors only Turnstone submitted a proposal. The Selectmen awarded Turnstone the contact for $279,000, which is $8,000 less than the voters approve in two warrant  articles this past March, according to the press release.

The project is expected to take sixty to ninety days to complete.
