AMHERST, NH — Amherst Fire dispatch received a call for a reported structure fire at 14 Waterview Drive Monday at about 7 p.m.

As crews responded, they were advised that a vehicle was on fire in a detached garage. Responders arrived and found heavy fire in the garage that was quickly spreading and requested a second alarm. One vehicle in the garage was fully engulfed in flames and firefighters cut through the garage door and attempted to knock down the fire.

Crews entered the house and confirmed there was smoke and high levels of carbon monoxide from the fire, but there was no fire damage. The fire was controlled in about 90 minutes and brought mutual aid from several neighboring towns for water, manpower, and station coverage.

Due to the homeowner closing the door to the house and leaving the garage doors down it they prevented the fire from heavily damaging the residence.
