VIDEO: Amherst Family Recovers Veteran's Lost Medals
U.S. Rep. Charlie Bass presented a collection of medals that belonged to a local veteran.
A local family has not yet found the remains of a veteran member they lost in Korea many years ago, but they were handed his accomplishments this morning.
U.S. Rep. Charlie Bass (R-NH) presented medals awarded to the late Christopher Vars to his nephew Charlies Vars and his family at the Amherst Town Hall Monday morning.
Bass presented the family with the veteran’s medals he earned while serving in World War II and Korea before he became missing in action. He had received the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award, the United Nations Service Medal, the Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII, and the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars.

Charlie was joined by his wife Rolinda Vars, sister Ruth Janey Taylor and daughters Kim Whitehead and Ellen Christo.
He was 13-years-old when his uncle died, and Vars said it was emotional to receive the medals earned while he was in service. He is building a frame for the medals to display in his honor.
