ZBA Delays Decision on Stearns Road Playing Fields

The board will go into deliberation on Monday, April 15 at 7 p.m. after reviewing new information.

An especially long rehearing on allowing a Stearns Road property to be used for commercial purposes came to no conclusion on Monday.

The Amherst Zoning Board of Adjustment decided to recess the public hearing until Monday, April 15 due to the large amount of information presented at the meeting.

The rehearing centered around a 57.2 acre plot of land on Stearns Road that owner Brad Knight wants to use for playing fields. He is seeking a variance to use the property for commercial use in order to cover the costs of hosting the teams.

Supporters applauded Knight's efforts to replace the outgoing Cemetery Fields, while abutters voiced concern over noise, traffic and environmental impact.

Amherst Patch will have more on last night's rehearing from both sides of the debate.
