BEDFORD, NH — Two people were injured and two dogs killed during a crash at the Bedford tollbooth on the Everett Turnpike on Tuesday morning, according to New Hampshire State Police.

Around 9:15 a.m., troopers were sent to the barrier on the southbound side of the highway after hearing about the single-vehicle crash involving a 2023 Chrysler Pacifica. The driver, Cheryl North, 76, of Manchester, reportedly veered and crashed into the toll booth. A man and three dogs were also in the minivan, a report said.

“North and her passenger were transported to a local hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries, and two of the three dogs were pronounced deceased by an area veterinarian after being transported by Bedford and Merrimack animal control officers,” a report stated.

Three southbound toll lanes on the highway were closed for about two and a half hours during the investigation and cleanup. While speed appears to be a factor, all aspects of the crash remain under investigation, the report said.

Bedford and Merrimack police and fire departments and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation assisted state police at the crash scene.
