Ayotte Share's New Hampshire's Healthcare Woes in D.C.

'What just happened? I just received a cancelation notice ... help me.'

U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-NH, has uploaded a 33 minute video via YouTube of her speech on the Senate floor on Nov. 5, detailing the feedback she's been getting from New Hampshire residents about the looming changes under the Affordable Care Act.

The failure of healtcare.gov has revealed "troubling incompetence" with security issues, Ayotte said. The website is just the canary in the coal mine of a flawed law, she said.

"Most tragically we know the law was sold to the American people under false pretenses," Ayotte said, citing the claim made by President Obama, that those who liked their health care can keep it.

Another problem, Ayotte said, is eliminating choice when it comes to selecting a hospital. She said in New Hampshire there's only one insurer participating in the health care exchange, so that "10 of our 26 hospitals are not part of the exchange and are excluded."

Ayotte also read excerpts from emails and letters she's received from constituents in New Hampshire, including:

  • Maryanne in Lisbon, who had hoped it "would be a solution, not a financial drain."
  • Len in Greenland says the President was wrong, "I can't keep my coverage... It's bringing me to tears."
  • Edward in Marlow is self-employed - he has a rare disease and a high deductible plan, saying that Anthem notified him they will be canceling his insurance policy.
  • Jennifer in Canaan recieved a letter from Blue Cross of discontinued insurance because it didn't conform to the law under the Affordable Care Act.
  • Michael in Atkinson  said the fact is we are now being told what we can and can't do, and where we can and can't go.
  • Richard in Alton Bay, a small business owner, was informed the policy he's had for 10 years will be canceled due to Obamacare provisions. His new option will be a plan that costs more and offers less.
  • Louis in Sunapee: 'What just happened? I just received a cancelation notice ... help me.'
