This week's bitter-cold temperatures couldn't stop many local residents from racing to the old Bedford Town Hall to support Bedford Positively's first in-town blood drive.
In fact, Bedford Positively's Ryk Bullock said that the event exceeded expectations.
"The Blood Drive held by the American Red Cross, in conjunction with Bedford Positively, was a great success inasmuch as the goal set by the American Red Cross was exceeded by seven units," said Bullock, who offered a special thanks should be extended to PJ's Flowers & Weddings and owner Patrick Hoffmann for providing 'perfect' blood red roses to be presented to the donors.
The event provided enough success that Bedford Positively has agreed to partner with the American Red Cross for a series of additional blood drives in 2014.
Food donations were also accepted for New Horizons, a food pantry, soup kitchen and homeless shelter in Manchester.
