House bill (HB 332) would allow a mental health day from school for students who need to take one. Dozens of states "have similar laws." Another bill, (HB 505), would require "comprehensive mental health" to be taught in public schools. Ann Marie Banfield of Bedford said the discussion "belongs before the state Board of Education, not the Legislature," adding, "Teachers are not mental health experts, yet here we are again putting this on their shoulders."
