Bicyclist Struck By Nashua Transit Bus, Rider Seriously Injured

An accident on Main Street near Lake closed one lane as police investigated the accident. A trauma alert for the cyclist was requested.

NASHUA, NH — Nashua police were at the scene of an accident involving a Nashua Transit Bus and a bicycle on Main Street Friday morning.

Nashua Fire Rescue and AMR ambulance responded with police to Main Street near the intersection of Lake Street at 8 a.m. Upon their arrival at the scene, they found a 56-year-old bicyclist on the ground with serious injuries.

A trauma alert was requested for Southern New Hampshire Medical for the victim who had a head injury. The victim was transported to the hospital with multiple injuries described by police as serious but not believed to be life-threatening.

Nashua police taped off an area that included a heavily damaged bicycle, shoes on the ground, and the bike seat next to a utility pole. The bus was stopped about 20 feet north of where the bike was on the ground.

Nashua Police say that initial investigation indicates both the bus and the cyclist were traveling North on Main Street. There were no injuries to anyone on the bus.

Nashua Police Sgt. John Cinelli said that all Nashua Transit buses have 360-degree video cameras and the footage captured of the accident will be reviewed. He also said there were also witnesses to the accident.

The cyclist appears to be the only person transported to the hospital.

Nashua police will be on scene for an extended time while an investigation is completed.
