Bread Inventory In Regional Stores Being Affected By Manhunt In Maine

Market Basket and Hannaford are advising inventory of bakery products will be impacted. The second largest U.S. bakery is in Lewiston Maine

BEDFORD, NH - Groceries stores are warning customers of inventory shortages of some bread products in their stores due to the mass shooting incident and manhunt in Maine.

Flowers Foods which provides baked products to hundreds of stores is based in Lewiston, ME in the same area where a shelter-in-place exists and the manhunt is ongoing.

The company on its website says they are the second largest producer and marketer of packaged bakery foods in the U.S.

Hannaford stores in some New Hampshire locations hung signs in the bread aisles stating:

“Due to the events taking place in Maine, our bread supplier producing a variety of brands has been closed. This is causing stock issues across the category and may take multiple days to recover. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.”

At a Market Basket location in Bedford, NH several signs posted in the bread aisle said “Due to recent events in Maine, Country Kitchen and Market Basket bread will be temporarily unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

An internal memo that was obtained from one of the grocery store chains in New England, it stated that there would be a deficit of inventory across the region. There will be a “ripple effect” on the bread and bakery category products.

Authorities at a press conference Friday morning said that the person of interest, Robert Card has not been located and is considered armed and dangerous.

Thursday in Hudson, NH there was heightened police presence due to an association between Card and a local bakery outlet on Security Drive.
