Here are the top stories today in Bedford:
- Should you wear a seat belt? Yes, of course. But if you're driving in New Hampshire, you won't get a ticket for not wearing one. A mandatory seat belt bill was voted down on Thursday by a vote of 206-162. State Rep. "Daniel Veilleux, D-Amherst, who supported the bill, said 'marketing alone won't convince people to wear seatbelts,' adding that New Hampshire has 'the lowest seat belt compliance rate in the nation.' Rep. Ted Gorski, R-Bedford, said the bill goes against the state Constitution and 'would amount to government intrusion.'" New Hampshire is the only state in the nation without an adult seat belt law. (Yahoo News)
- How much snow fell for the "biggest snowstorm of the season?" The March nor'easter brought more than a foot of snow to Bedford. If you tromped through snow in your driveway or sidewalk before it was cleared, you were likely walking through 15.5 inches of snow—that was the snowfall total for Bedford Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. See other snow totals from around the state here: (The Keene Sentinel)
- "Feeling the luck of the Irish?" Here's a chance to extend your luck all weekend. In honor of St. Patrick's Day, the Animal Rescue League of NH is offering $10 off tickets for its $5,000 cash raffle all weekend. Try your luck, and support a good cause: (Animal Rescue League of NH via Facebook)
- Check your freezer! A recall was issued for "Trader Joe's organic Tropical Fruit Blend Pineapple, Bananas, Strawberries, and Mango sold in Bedford, Nashua, and Portsmouth." The strawberries from Mexico are linked to a Hepatitis A outbreak. See the full list of the recalled frozen organic strawberries and frozen tropical fruit blends on the FDA’s website. (Patch)
