Here are the top stories in Bedford today:

  1. On Saturday, 27 problem-solving creative teams advanced to the NH Destination Imagination State Finals happening on March 25 in Bedford. Forty-three teams competed in Saturday's NH-DI semi-finals in Meredith. It's a world-wide competition! Over 150,000 students from 30 countries compete in Destination Imagination challenges that are "based on STEAM principles of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, Math." (Manchester Ink Link)
  2. Did you know New Hampshire has 12 "Official State Animals"? The newest addition, an intelligent, sociable dog called the Chinook, which almost became extinct in 1965, was designated the official state dog in 2009. And seventh-grade students at the Ross A. Lurgio Middle School in Bedford came up with the idea. Since then, 13 states added a dog to the list of official state animals! See all of New Hampshire's state animals here: (AZ Animals)
  3. "Clean water is not a luxury; it's a basic human right," said Bedford state Senator Denise Ricciardi in a recent news release. Ricciardi, who lives in Bedford, introduced two bills to keep New Hampshire's water clean: SB138, for $10 million in funding "to combat PFAS contamination in drinking water," and SB230, for $30 million in funding for "vital wastewater projects." In her testimony to lawmakers, Riccardi said this issue is not only important for the state, but is "personal to her family:" The water in Bedford where she lives was "contaminated over 25 years ago."
