Crash On Goffstown Back Road Requires Extended Time For Extrication

A car was struck by a pick-up truck crushing the side of the car entrapping and seriously injuring the 18-year-old driver.

GOFFSTOWN, NH — Goffstown Fire and police responded to a report of an accident on Goffstown Back Road near Langan Drive with reports of entrapment on Wednesday.

Responders were informed that the driver of the car was 18-years-old and was unconscious but breathing, and was entrapped in the vehicle. Firefighters immediately gave medical aid to the car's driver and began extricating using multiple hydraulic tools. A second ambulance was requested mutual aid from Bedford for the driver of the other vehicle.

While extricating the driver of the car, firefighters covered him so he would not be cut by the glass or flying debris.

Initial information and evidence at the scene indicated that the car was traveling toward Manchester, and the pickup truck was traveling toward the center of Goffstown. It appeared the truck crossed the center line, striking the car. However, this is based on initial information at the scene.

The man in the car was removed after about 40 minutes of extrication, and a trauma alert was requested for the Elliot Hospital. As the ambulance was treating the man, his mother arrived at the scene and was able to speak to him in the ambulance.

Goffstown police appeared to be initiating a roadside sobriety test for the driver of the pick-up truck. After a short time, he was placed in the cruiser and awaited the arrival of the Bedford EMS personnel to evaluate him. He was transported to CMC and the police officer followed the ambulance to the hospital.

Goffstown Back Road was closed for an extended time and opened to restricted travel while Goffstown Police investigated the accident.
