Crews Work For 1.5 Hours To Extricate Manchester Man From I-93 Crash

Justin Landry, 25, of Manchester, was med-flighted to Boston Wednesday after he crashed an Infiniti into several trees near Exit 5.

LONDONDERRY, NH — Londonderry Fire, Derry Fire, New Hampshire State Police responded to a single-vehicle accident on Tuesday on Interstate 93 south just north of Exit 5.

The preliminary investigation indicated the driver of a 2006 Infiniti G35 was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle traveled across all four lanes of Interstate and down an embankment, where it collided with multiple trees, according to state police.

The driver, the sole occupant of the Infiniti, was trapped within the vehicle following the crash.

For approximately 90 minutes, emergency personnel from the Londonderry Fire Department worked to extricate the driver. A medical helicopter was requested, and the driver was flown to Lahey Hospital & Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

More than a dozen firefighters used multiple hand tools and hydraulic tools to work on extricating the man. It took crews over an hour to extricate the man. The victim was placed in a waiting ambulance so that paramedics could stabilize him before he was loaded into the helicopter.

The driver has been identified as Justin Landry, 25, of Manchester. Landry is currently listed in critical condition. Two lanes of I-93 were reopened at about 8:15 p.m., and traffic had been backed up several miles and began to be able to travel south.

State police remained at the scene investigating the accident and are expected to be there for several hours.
