Here are the top stories in Bedford today:
- Wow! Bedford varsity wrestlers are still undefeated after playing the Crimson Tide in Concord on Wednesday. The Bedford Bulldogs varsity wrestling team already had 12 wins when facing the Concord High School varsity team. Concord was in the lead most of the night, but Bedford turned it around, beating Concord 40-36. Find out more about the match here: (Bedford Patch)
- Friends and family waited for 105 New Hampshire National Guard soldiers who served nine months in the Middle East. Bedford teacher Matthew Bruneau, who served seven years in the National Guard, waited with full-time guardsman and older brother Tim, for their brother, 1st Lt. Christopher Bruneau, to arrive on a bus with his brigade from Manchester-Boston Regional Airport. Tim and Matt both served stateside, "most recently during the pandemic in New Hampshire. " So far, "Chris is the first to serve overseas." (Stars and Stripes)
- If you're looking for something fun to do, here are a few events happening this weekend: Valentine's Day is coming soon! Choose a paintbrush and get ready for the I Love You painting event. The workshop will be tonight, Feb. 3 at 6:30 p.m. And if you're an Elvis fan, "A Night of Elvis" variety show will be at The Majestic Theater, with skits, comedy, and of course, songs that pay tribute to "The King." - A deep freeze is moving into our area Friday through Saturday with "dangerously cold" temperatures. A wind chill advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. Friday to 1 p.m. Saturday. The National Weather Service said: "Frostbite and hypothermia are possible if precautions are not taken. The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes." The NWS also reminds people to check in on elderly friends and neighbors. The high Friday will be 14 degrees (with the wind chill, temps will feel much colder) with winds gusts up to 39 m.p.h. The low Friday night is -12. Saturday will also be very cold. The high temperature will be 12 degrees with winds of 16 m.p.h. with gusts up to 30 m.p.h. The low Saturday night will be 7 degrees. (Bedford Patch)
