Robert Hardy is accused of stabbing a 69-year-old man multiple times in the torso and barricading himself inside a Central Street residence.

MANCHESTER, NH — Manchester Police, fire, and AMR responded to a report of a man suffering from stab wounds in the alley behind a Central Street residence near the corner of Beech Street on Monday.

Upon arrival, at about 5:20 p.m., police found a man with stab wounds to the abdomen and gave medical aid until firefighters and AMR arrived. The man, 69, was moved to the steps of the Manchester Police Athletic League and transferred to a stretcher after medical aid was given. He was then rushed to the Elliot Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The victim told police a man he knew attacked him with a knife, stabbing him multiple times before he was able to leave the building and get in his car. He identified the suspect as Robert Hardy, 76, and said he was still inside the building, according to Manchester Police Spokesperson Heather Hamel.

The suspect in the stabbing was inside of the Central Street house and refused to come out when asked by officers several times.

A perimeter was set up around the house. Beech Street was closed, and the bearcat was brought to the scene. Officers continued to ask the man to come out with his hands up. After about 30 minutes, the man who had been inside came out with a lit cigarette in his hand and his hands up in the air.
