Firefighter Injured Battling Amherst Blaze [VIDEO]

3-alarm fire started on back porch of Amherst residence.

A slip and fall on ice sent a Milford firefighter to the hospital Saturday morning after crews from several area towns responded to a 3-alarm blaze at 22 Hickory Lane in Amherst.

Amherst Fire Chief Mark Boynton said the injured firefighter broke a finger and received medical attention, but experienced no serious injuries. There were no other reported injuries to firefighters or civilians, he added.

The house that caught fire, however, suffered significant damage to the back porch area, where firefighters battled heavy flames for a couple hours before containing the blaze.
